DARWIN'S VISION FOR EDUCATION

Our goal at Darwin is to have a safe, secure, beautiful school that meets the physical, emotional, social, and educational needs of all our children. This will include the cooperation of parents, teachers, students, and the community and the incorporation of extended programs in a climate of respect for cultural diversity.

THE CHICAGO BOARD OF EDUCATION BELIEVES THAT:
  1. All children can learn, given the proper school environment.
  2. The purpose of the Chicago Public Schools is the education of the whole child. The schoolhouse is the center of this educational process. Each school is unique and functions as an individual entity.
  3. The principal and teachers of a school, in cooperation with the parents and community, know best the potential and needs of their students and are, therefore, the best suited to direct the educational course of their school.
  4. The role of all non-classroom personnel of the Chicago Public Schools is one of support to the schoolhouse.
  5. The first priority for the allocation of all resources, both financial and human, within the Chicago Public Schools is the education of the whole child.
  6. The multiracial, multicultural, multilingual makeup of the Chicago Public Schools' student body is an asset and a resource for enriching the lives of all students.
DARWIN'S HOURS ARE FROM:

9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Children are expected to be at school at the times shown above, with all materials needed for their daily program. They will line up in their assigned place and their teacher will escort them into and out of the building daily.

If your child is participating in the breakfast program, he or she is to report to the Modular lunch room beginning at 8:25 and no later than 8:40. All students will follow the schedule below:

GENERAL INFORMATION

ADMISSION PROCEDURES Darwin is a neighborhood school, accepting students for pre-kindergarten (ages 3 and 4) through grade eight. We also accept applications to our World Language Program.

In order to enroll, a student needs proof of address, medical records (physical and dental exam is needed before entering school, as well as an up-to-date shot record), proof of birth date, and a transfer, if coming from another public school.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Darwin will offer a variety of after school activities during the regular school year. All activities require the completion of an application form that includes parental permission. After school activities include tutoring and intramural sports. Starting and ending dates, along with times, will be announced later in the school year.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
Whenever a student is absent, we require that parents call school and inform us of the child's absence (534-4110) and send a signed note with the child when he or she returns. The note tells us you are aware of the absence. State law requires that students attend school daily, unless they are ill.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS
If you and your family move, notify the office immediately in writing, with the following information: your child's name(s), room number(s), new address and telephone number. If you expect to move over the summer, please notify the office in writing as soon as possible and prior to the last week of school.

CHEATING
Cheating is considered an unacceptable behavior at Darwin and is defined as giving or receiving unauthorized aid on a test or other class work, and/or homework. Each teacher further defines cheating as it applies to her/his class. Consequences will be determined by the teacher, the disciplinarian and the assistant principal.

Information is sent home informing families of special activities, important events and other necessary information as needed. Remember to ask you child for the any information from school.

CONFERENCES
Report card pickup days will be held November 8, 2007 and April 17, 2008. Parents/guardians must pick up their child's report card between 12:00 - 3:00 and 4:00 - 6:15.

Additional conferences may be scheduled between 8:30 and 8:55 daily or may be scheduled at other times by written request to the teacher.

CONSENT FORMS
At the beginning of each year, students will receive a photo consent form and an internet use consent form. Parents and students MUST read, sign and return these forms to school. Students will not be able to use the internet without a signed form on file.

DISCIPLINE
Darwin follows the Student Discipline Code of the Chicago Board of Education. We expect students to behave properly, at all times.

Students are expected to abide by the school rules. The most important of these rules is the respect for the rights and property of others. Such behavior is necessary if all students are to have an equal chance to obtain a good education. If a pupil's behavior interferes with the rights and/or property of others, appropriate action will be taken.

If the following guidelines are adhered to, then the school becomes a pleasant and welcome place for everyone.

Your child is expected to:
  • Wear a uniform daily (white top/black bottom).
  • Cell Phones are NOT ALLOWED! They will be confiscated.
  • Come prepared and on time to school every day.
  • Respect other students, teachers, and staff as well as the school property.
  • Show respect for all adults and classmates.
  • Have a PASS when out of their scheduled classroom.
  • Move in a quiet and orderly manner in the hallways.
  • Complete assigned class work and homework daily.
  • Avoid damage to other student's personal property. Theft is a gross violation of the rights of others.
  • Help us keep our school clean and neat. Littering, writing on walls, desks, or books is unacceptable. Have pride in yourself and in your school.
  • Respect other students. Verbal threats and 'put downs', sexual harassment, or physical assault of another person (or fighting) is unacceptable and has severe disciplinary consequences.
  • Use appropriate language at all times.
  • Practice good citizenship.
  • DO NOT CHEW GUM OR EAT CANDY in the building.
  • Glass bottles are not allowed.
  • Leave any large amounts of money or personal equipment such as radios, cell phones, tape players, electronic games, toys, and other valuables at home. We will not be responsible for their loss and they will be confiscated by staff if found in school.
All student behavior must be based upon respect and consideration for the rights of others to ensure a safe, secure, educational experience. Students have the responsibility to know and adhere to the rules and regulations of the school.

DRESS CODE FOR STUDENTS
Darwin has instituted a Uniform Policy. Students are to wear white tops and black bottoms (pants, skirts, etc). We strongly urge parents to adhere to this policy. Sweaters and sweatshirts must be solid black or solid white.

Males: No Earrings and will be required to wear a belt if their pants are too large.
Females: No Short shorts, dresses, skirts, halter tops, skinny strap tank tops and/or bare midriffs and shoulders. All Students may not wear hoods, hats or gym shoes with rollers in school. All students MUST dress appropriately.

Students inappropriately dressed, as determined by the administration, will be sent to the office, and the parent/guardian will be called at home or at work.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION
In case of emergency, or if a child should become ill at school, each student is required to have on file in the school office the following information: parent/guardian name, address, home telephone, work telephone, and emergency telephone number of two friends or relatives. Medical alert information, if appropriate, should also be provided. If a child must leave school early due to illness, a parent/guardian or authorized adult must pick up the student.

FIELD TRIPS
From time to time, individual classes may take a trip that supplements or enriches the educational program. The costs of these trips will always be kept to a minimum and are an important part of your child's education. A permission slip, containing information and costs of the trip, will be sent home. Students may accompany the class only with a signed permission slip. Permission by phone will not be accepted. All students are expected to attend field trips. Each class must have one teacher and two chaperones. Parents are encouraged and needed to volunteer as chaperones. Chaperones are asked to leave younger children and friends at home.

GRADUATION
All students are expected to meet graduation requirements. Those students who do not meet these criteria will attend the Summer School Program.

Since graduation ceremonies are earned with good grades and good behavior, a student may be withdrawn from the ceremonies if his or her behavior is unacceptable of if he or she fails to meet the CPS graduation criteria.

Participation in graduation activities is insured when all requirements are met. A fee schedule and list of activities will be sent home by the end of the first semester.

GYM
Students participating in physical education classes must wear proper clothing.
  • Gym shoes properly tied.
  • Gym shorts and sweats pants of a dark color.
  • White t-shirt, blouse or sweatshirt.
HALLS
Students must have a pass at all times when they are in the hall. Passes must be kept to a minimum and should be used only for emergencies or school business. Students who attend pullout classes are to be picked up by the teacher. Under the direct supervision of the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade teachers, upper grade students will change classes. All students will enter and leave the building in an orderly and quiet manner.

HEALTH AND IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
State law requires that families present proof of immunization upon enrollment in any public school. Proof of immunizations against pertussis, diptheria, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, and polio. Proof is an official document signed by a state licensed health care provider. Students entering kindergarten or first grade, fifth grade, and ninth grade must pass a physical examination and present proof of same at the time of enrollment. A current dental exam is also required.

HOMEWORK
Homework is an integral part of any good educational program. Students will be assigned homework each school night in major subjects, including reading, math, writing, language arts, science, social studies, and other subjects. Homework provides practice and drill that reinforces classroom learning, reviews previously learned skills and concepts, is an opportunity for independent study, research, and creative thinking. It helps students retain what they learn for longer periods of time. It is important that a student completes all homework and any missed assignments. Students who are absent must ask their teacher for missed assignments.

Homework may be in the form of reading a book for a report, drawing a map, doing math problems, answering questions at the end of a chapter, studying for a test, memorizing spelling words or a short song or passage, studying notes from the day's class, writing a composition, completing a project for science or social studies, practicing a speech, or completing other work assigned by a teacher.

The amount of time spent on daily homework assignments varies with the age of the child. Students should expect homework as follows:

Primary grades - 30 minutes/day

Intermediate grades - 60 minutes/day

Upper grades - 90 minutes/day

HONOR ROLL
Students who receive all A's and B's on their report card for any one marking period and who do not receive any check marks will be on the Darwin Honor Roll. Students with no check marks and all grades of 'A' will be on the Principal's Honor Roll.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
Students should report to school at the regular times indicated in this handbook and not before. In the event of severe weather as students come to school, they should report to the Auditorium entrance and will be admitted and held in the auditorium beginning at 8:30 a.m.

LUNCH PROGRAM (FREE AND REDUCED)
Students and families receive an application for a free or reduced lunch during the first month of school. Lunch tickets from the last school year will be honored until October of the current year. Eligibility is determined by the school office following Federal guidelines.
ALL students MUST have a New lunch form on file each school year regardless of income.

Lunch Room Procedures:
Eating times will be staggered during the lunch period with younger students eating first and older students eating last.

PLAYGROUND
Students are expected to be on the playground at 8:50 a.m. for the line up bell. Students are to be orderly. Games such as “Johnny Tackle”, football, running and other activities that may result in students getting hurt are prohibited. Play fighting and similar behavior is not allowed. Balls are not allowed on the playground except during gym class.

REPORT CARDS
Report cards are issued four times per year, approximately every ten weeks. The first report card, November 8, 2007, and the third report card, April 17, 2008, must be picked up by the parent or guardian. The second report card, January 30, 2008, and the fourth report card, June 13, 2008, will be given to the child. Parents are asked to carefully read and review all information on the card. After doing so, please sign and return it to your child's teacher. If you have any questions about your child's progress or grades, please contact the school as indicated above under Conferences.

Progress Reports will be sent home during the 5th, 15th, 25th and 35th weeks of school. Please sign the Progress Report and return to school.

SCHOOL CLOSING
When the weather is extremely bad, especially during the winter, snow or other conditions may cause schools to close. Please listen to the radio to learn if the Chicago Public Schools are closed. Radio stations will make regular announcements about the status of schools. Recommended stations are AM670, AM720, FM91.5 (English), AM1200, and FM105.3 (Spanish).

STUDENT COUNCIL
Darwin has a student council with elections once a year. Each classroom elects two representatives beginning with fourth grade. A member of the faculty serves as sponsor.

L.S.C.
The Darwin Local School Council meets once a month. The council is six parents, two community members, two teachers, & the principal. Public participation is welcome. Parents are encouraged to attend.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Students are expected to come to school with a minimum of two pencils and sufficient paper to complete assignments. Individual teachers, especially in grades three through eight also require students to have a ball-point pen with blue or black ink. Primary teachers may require crayons. Other supplies will be needed as well and individual teachers will communicate special needs to you through your child. All Students should have their own headphones, for use in the computer labs, and 3rd - 8th grade students should have their own calculators. Students are expressly prohibited from bringing markers and white-out to school.

STUDY SKILLS
We believe that how a student studies is as important as how long a student studies. We suggest the following to help your child do his or her best:
  • Wear a uniform daily.
  • Come prepared to class with all necessary materials.
  • Listen and get involved with class activities and discussions.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand something.
  • Plan for and schedule time for homework.
  • Always do the very best work you can do. Just 'getting by' is not helpful.
  • Take pride in your work. Always be neat and legible. Remember it represents you!
TEXTBOOKS
Books are assigned to a student for his or her personal use. Books must be covered and protected from damage or loss. Each student is responsible for the care and protection of all books and will be required to pay the school for damage or loss beyond normal wear and use of the book. Report cards will be withheld at any marking period for which a student owes money for any lost or damaged books.

VISITING SCHOOL
All visitors to school must enter the rear entrance at the center playground. Visitors must get a pass to office before proceeding to rooms. Cooperation is expected from everyone.

VOLUNTEERS
Parents are encouraged to become involved in school by becoming a volunteer. If you are interested in this program, please come to the main office for more information.

EL HORARIO DE DARWIN ES:
9:00 a.m. hasta las 2:45 p.m., Lunes - Viernes

Se espera que los niños/as esté n en los patios que les hayan sido asignados a la hora antes mencionada, con todos los materiales o utensilios necesarios para su programa diario. Se pondrá en fila en sus lugares ya asignados y serán escoltados por sus maestros al entrar y al salir del edificio diariamente.

Si su niño/a está participando del programa de desayuno, el o ella se presentará en el comedor comenzando a las 8:25 y no más tarde que las 8:40. Todos los estudiantes seguirán el horario que sigue:

Lunes - viernes
Desayuno - 8:25 a.m.
Campana para la fila - 8:50 a.m.
Campana de entrada - 8:55 a.m.
Campana de tardanza - 9:05 a.m.
Salida - 2:45 p.m.

INFORMACION GENERAL

PROCEDIMIENTO PARA LA ADMISION
Darwin es una escuela de la vecindad que acepta estudiantes para Jardín Infantil (3 y 4 años de edad) hasta el octavo grado.

Para matricularse el estudiante necesita prueba de su dirección record/archivos mé dicos (un examen físico y examen dental son necesarios antes de entrar a la escuela, al igual tambié n como un record al día de las vacunas), prueba de la fecha de nacimiento, y una transferencia si viene de otra escuela pú blica.

ACTIVIDADES DESPUé S DE HORARIO ESCOLAR
Darwin ofrecerá una variedad de actividades despué s del horario escolar. Todas las actividades requieren el completar planillas de aplicación/ aceptación que incluyen el permiso de los padres. Las actividades incluyen Centro Social, baloncesto, cheerleading (vitoreo), coro, y otras actividades parecidas. Las fechas de comienzo y té rmino al igual el horario, serán anunciadas posteriormente.

PROCEDIMIENTO DE ASSISTENCIA
Cuando un estudiante está ausente, requerimos que los padres llamen a la escuela y nos informen de las ausencias del niño/a (534-4110) y envíen una nota firmada con el niño/a cuando é ste regrese a la escuela. La nota nos indica que usted está al tanto de la ausencia. La ley estatal requiere que los estudiantes asistan a la escuela todos los días a no ser que esté n enfermos.

CAMBIO DE DIRECCIóN
Si usted y/o su familia se mudan notifíqueselo a la oficina immediatemente por escrito con la información siguiente: el nombre de su hijo/a el numero del salón, la nueva dirección, y el nuevo numero de telé fono, si usted espera mudarse durante el verano, por favor notifíqueselo a la oficina por escrito tan pronto le sea posible pero antes de la ultima semana de clases.

TRAMPAS - COPIAR
El hacer trampas está considerado/como un comportamiento no aceptado en Darwin y es definido como el dar o recibir ayuda no autorizada en un examen o en otro trabajo del salón y/o tareas/deberes.

Cada maestro defina más las trampas como estas se apliquen a sus salones de clases. Las consecuencias serán determinadas por el maestro y/o el asistente del principal.

COMUNICACIONES CON EL HOGAR
Cartas de aviso son enviadas a las casas todos los meses informándoles a las familias de actividades especiales eventos importantes, y otras informaciones necesarias. Recuerde pedirle a su hijo/a estas cartas de aviso.

CONFERENCIAS
La recogida de libreta de calificaciones se efectuara el 8 de noviembre del 2007 y el 17 de abril del 2008. Padres apoderados deberán de venir a recoger la libreta de calificaciones entre las 12:00-3:00 y 4:00 a 6:15. Conferencias adicionales podrán ser asignadas entre las horas de 8:30 y 8:55 diariamente. Se podrá solicitar por escrito, diferentes horas para conferencias.

DISCIPLINA
Darwin sigue el Código Estudiantil de Disciplina Uniformad de la Junta de Educación de Chicago. Esperamos que los estudiantes se comporten como es debido en todo momento. Se espera que los estudiantes observen las reglas escolares. La más importante de estás reglas es el respetar el derecho y la propiedad de otros.

Este comportamiento es necesario si todos los estudiantes van a tener una oportunidad pareja o igual de obtener una buena educación. Si el comportamiento de un estudiante interfiere con los derechos y/o propiedad de otros, acciones apropiadas serán tomadas. Si las siguientes pautas son seguidas, la escuela se vuelve un lugar placentero y agradable para todos. Se espera que su hijo haga lo siguiente:
  • Debe de venir con uniforme diariamente (blanco y negro) (camisa/blusa blanca y pantalón/falda negra).
  • No se permiten telé fonos celulares. Serán confiscados.
  • Venir a la escuela preparado y a su hora.
  • Respete a los otros estudiantes, maestros, y empleados así como a la propiedad de las escuela.
  • Demostrar respeto y seguir los pedidos/encargos y las direcciones de los maestros y supervisores.
  • Tener un PASE de su maestro si está fuera del salón que le toca.
  • Mientras esta en los pasillos moverse en forma callada y ordenada.
  • Complete el trabajo asignado para el salón y para la casa todos los dias.
  • Evitar el daño a la propiedad personal de otros estudiantes.
  • Ayudarnos a mantener las escuela limpia y recogida. Ensuciar, escribir en las paredes, escritorios o libros no es aceptable.
  • Respete a los demás estudiantes. Amenazas verbales e insultos o menosprecios, acoso sexual, o asalto físico a otra persona (o pelear/reñir) no es aceptado y tiene severas consecuencias disciplinarias.
  • Usar lenguaje adecuado en todo momento.
  • Practicar el ser un buen ciudadano en todo momento.
  • ES ABSOLUTAMENTE PROHIBIDO EL MASTICAR CHICLE O CARAMELOS en el edificio.
  • Que dejen las grandes, cantidades de dinero o equipos personales como radios, equipos fonográficos de cabeza, toca cintas, juegos electrónicos, juguetes y otras cosas de valor en las casa. No seremos responsables de ellos si se pierden y serán conficadas por el personal de la escuela si son halladas.
CODIGO DE VESTIR PARA LOS ESTUDIANTES
Darwin ha instituido el uso de uniforme. Los estudiantes deben de usar blusa o camisa blanca y pantalones o falda negro/a. Pedimos que los padres se adhieran a esta póliza.

Hombre: No Aretes, tambié n, se requieren tengan un cinturón o faja si traen pantalones muy grandes.
Mujer: No se permiten pantalón, vestidos o falda muy arriba de lo rodilla, camisa con mucho escote, sin espalda, de tiras finitas o muy cortas enseñando abdomen.

No se permitirá a ningú n estudiante usar gorras en la cabeza dentro de la escuela. Todo estudiante DEBE de venir vestido apropiadamente.

Los estudiantes que están vestidos inapropriadamente, como sea determinado por la administración, serán enviados a la oficina y el padre/guardián será llamado a la casa o al trabajo.

INFORMACION DE EMERGENCIA
En caso de una emergencia, o si el niño/a se enferma en la escuela, esta requerido que cada estudiante tenga en el archivo de la oficina de la escuela una planilla con la siguiente información: nombre del m/padre o guardián, dirección telé fono de la casa, telé fono del trabajo, y los nú meros de telé fono para emergencias de dos amigos o parientes. Proveer información de aviso mé dico si esto es apropiado. Si su hijo/hija se tiene que ir de la escuela por haberse enfermado el p/madre, guardián un adulto autorizado tiene que venir a buscarlo.

EXCURSIONES
De vez en cuando las clases individuales puede que hagan un viaje que suplemente o enriquezca el programa educacional. El costo de estos viajes siempre será mantenido al mínimo y son una parte importante de la educación de su hijo/hija. Una planilla de permiso, con toda la información y costo del viaje será enviado a la casa. Los estudiantes solamente pueden acompañar a la clase en el viaje, si tienen la planilla de permiso firmada. No se aceptaran permisos por el telé fono. Cada clase tiene que tener/llevar una maestra y dos chaperones. Se les pide padres para que se pongan de voluntarios como acompañantes/chaperones. Se le pide a los chaperones/ acompañantes que dejen a niños pequeños en la casa.

GRADUACIóN
Se espera que todos los estudiantes cumplan con los requisitos de graduación. Los estudiantes que no enfrenten este criterio, tendrán que acudir al programa de verano puentes.

Ya que la ceremonia de graduación se gana con buen comportamiento y un buen grado, un estudiante puede ser omitido de las ceremonias si su comportamiento. No es aceptable o si el/ella no enfrenta el criterio de las Escuelas Publicas de Chicago.

La participicación en todas las actividades de graduación es segura cuando todos los requisitos son cumplidos. Una lista de precios/cuotas, y la lista de actividades serán enviadas a su casa.

GIMNASIA
Los estudiantes que participan en as clases de educación física tienen que usar la ropa adecuada:
  • Zapatos de gimnasia bien atados.
  • Pantalones cortos o sudaderas de color oscuro.
  • Camiseta/playera, blusa o sudaderas blancas.
PASILLOS
Los estudiantes tienen que tener un pase para estar en los pasillos en cualquier momento. Los pases tienen y deben de ser usados solamente en casos de emergencia o para asuntos de la escuela. Los estudiantes que asisten a clases especiales (pull-out) tienen que ser recogidos por el maestro. Bajo la dirección directa de los maestros, los estudiantes de sexto, sé ptimo y octavo grado cambiaran de clases. Todos estudiantes entrarán y saldran de la escuela en forma callada y ordenada.

REQUISITOS DE SALUD E INMUNIZACIONES
La ley del estado exige que las familias presenten pruebas de inmunización al matricularse en las escuelas pú blicas. Las pruebas de inmunización en contra de la toz ferina, difteria, té tano, sarampión, paperas, rubé ola y polio. Prueba es un documento oficial firmado por un proveedor de salud pú blica certificado por el estado. Los estudiantes que entran al Jardín Infantil o el primer grado el quinto grado y el noveno grado tienen que pasar un examen físico y presentar prueba del mismo en el momento de matricularse. Se requiere tambié n un examen dental.

DEBERES/TAREA PARA LA CASA
La tarea es una parte íntegra de cualquier programa educacional. A los estudiantes se les asignara deber/trabajo tarea diariamente en las asignaturas más importantes incluyendo lectura, matemáticas, escritura, lenguaje, ciencia, estudios sociales, y otras materias. La tarea les provee la práctica y la repetición que refuerza lo aprendido en la clase, revisa destrezas y conceptos ya presentados, es una oportunidad para estudiar independientemente investigar y pensar creativamente. Ayuda a los estudiantes a mantener lo aprendido por periodos de tiempo más largos. Es muy importante que los estudiantes completen todo el deber y cualquier trabajo asignado. Los estudiantes que están ausentes tienen que pedirle el trabajo que les falta a sus maestros.

La tarea puede ser en forma de leer un libro para un reporte, dibujar un mapa, hacer problemas de matemáticas, contestar preguntas al final de un capítulo, estudiar para un examen, memorizar palabras para deletrearlas o una canción o poesía, estudiar las notas del dia, escribir una composición, completar un proyecto de ciencias o estudios sociales practicar un discurso o completar otro trabajo asignado por el maestro.

Las tareas dependen de la edad del niño/a. Los estudiantes deben de tener la siguiente cantidad de deberes tareas:

Grados primarios - 30 minutos diarios
Grados intermedios - 60 minutos diarios
Grados superiores - 90 minutos diarios

CUADRO DE HONOR
Los estudiantes que reciben solamente A y B en su libreta de calificaciones durante un periodo de calificación y no tienen ninguna marca negativa estarán en el Cuadro de Honor. Los estudiantes que tengan solamente A y ninguna marca negativa estarán en el Cuadro de Honor Principal.

CLIMA INCLEMENTE
Los estudiantes deben de reportarse a la escuela a las horas regulares ya indicadas en este folleto y no antes. Si hay un clima muy severo los estudiantes deben de presentarse en las entradas que ya les ha sido asignada y se les permitirá entrar al auditorio comenzando a las 8:30.

PROGRAMA DE ALMUERZO (GRATIS Y REDUCIDO)
Los estudiantes y sus familias recibirán una aplicación para almuerzo gratis durante el primer mes escolar. Las tarjetas de almuerzo del año anterior serán honradas hasta Octubre del año corriente. Elegibilidad será determinada por la oficina siguiendo las guías o reglas Federales. Todo estudiante debe de tener una planilla completa independientemente del ingreso.

Procedimiento Del Comedor:
Las horas de comer serán por turno durante el periodo de almuerzo con los estudiantes más jóvenes comiendo primero y los mayores comiendo ú ltimo.

PATIOS DE RECREO
Se espera que los estudiantes esté n en sus patios ya a las 8:50 para hacer la fila. Los estudiantes deberán de comportarse. Juegos como el de “Johnny Tackle”, balompié americano, y actividades que puedan resultar en lesiones están prohibidas. Jugar a pelearse o luchar y comportamiento similar no es permitido. Pelotas no son permitas en el patio a no ser durante las clases de gimnasia.

LIBRETA DE CALIFICACIONES
Las libretas de calificaciones son distribuidas cuatro veces al año, aproximadamente cada diez semanas. El primer boletín, Noviembre 8, 2007, y el tercer boletín, Abril 17, 2008, tiene que ser recogido por el m/padre o guardián. La segunda, libreta en enero 30, 2008, y la cuarta en junio 13, 2008, se le entrega al niño/a. Se les pide a los padres que lo lean cuidadosamente y revisen todo la información. Fírmelo y devué lvalo al maestro de su hijo. Si tiene alguna pregunta acerca del progreso de las calificaciones de su hijo, por favor, póngase en contacto con la escuela.

A la mitad de cada periodo de calificaciones, los maestros enviaran a las casas una nota de reprobación a niños que esté n en peligro de reprobar una asignatura. Por que creemos que el tener é xito es un factor importante, un plan de remediación será desarrollado con su ayuda. Le pedimos que venga a la escuela y se reú na con el maestro de su hijo para hacer esto.

CLAUSURA DE LA ESCUELA
Cuando el clima esta extremadamente malo, especialmente durante el invierno, nieve y otras condiciones pueden causar la clausura de las escuelas.

Por favor escuche el radio para saber si las Escuelas Publicas de Chicago están cerradas. Las estaciones de radio anunciaran si las escuelas, se abren o no. Las Estaciones recomendadas son AM670, AM720, FM91.5 (ingles), AM1200 y FM105.3 (español).

CONCILIO ESTUDIANTIL
Darwin tiene un concilio estudiantil con elecciones una vez al año. Cada salón elige a dos representantes, comenzando desde cuarto grado. Un miembro de la facultad sirve de auspiciados.

CONCILIO LOCAL ESCOLAR
El Concilio Escolar Local de Darwin se reú ne a una vez al mes. El concilio consiste de seis padres, dos miembros de la comunidad, dos maestros y el principal. Su audiencia sera muy bien al cogida.

UTILES ESCOLARES
Se espera que los estudiantes traigan a la escuela un mínimo de dos lápices y suficiente papel para completar las asignaciones. Maestros en los grados de tercero a octavo tambié n piden bolígrafos de tinta negra o azul. Los maestros de primaria podrían pedir crayolas. Cada maestro le comunicara necesidades especiales a usted por medio de su hijo. Los estudiantes están expresamente prohibidos de traer marcadores o 'white out' (liquido blanco de corregir) a la escuela. Todo Estudiante debe tener su propio audífono para el laboratorio de computadoras, todo estudiante de 3rd y 8th. Debe de tener su propia calculadora.

DESTREZAS DE ESTUDIO
Creemos que como el estudiante es tan importante como cuanto tiempo estudie. Sugerimos los siguientes pasos para hacer que su hijo/a tenga mejor resultados:
  • Usar uniforme diariamente.
  • Venir preparado a clase con todos los materiales necesarios.
  • Escuchar e involucrarse en las discusiones y actividades de las clase.
  • Hacer preguntas cuando no entienda.
  • Planear un horario para el deber/tardea.
  • Usar lo que aprende y aplícalo en nuevas situaciones.
  • Siempre haz el mejor trabajo que puedas. Si nada mas haces lo necesario para pasar no te ayudas.
  • Ten orgullo en tu trabajo. Se siempre cuidadoso y aseado. Acué rdate, esto te representa a ti!
LIBROS DE TEXTO
Los libros le son asignados a cada estudiante para su uso personal. Los libros tienen que ser cubiertos y protegidos para que no se dañen o se pierdan. Cada estudiante es responsable del cuidado y protección de todos los libros que se la asignen y se le pedirá que pague por daños que sobrepasen el uso normal. Las libretas de calificaciones serán retenidas si el estudiante debe dinero por libros perdidos o dañados.

VISITANTES A LA ESCUELA
Todos los visitantes deben de entrar por la puerta del patio. Despué s de recibir un pase los visitantes tienen que presentarse en la oficina antes de proceder a entrar a los salones. De todas las cooperaciones es apreciada.

VOLUNTARIOS
Se les pide a los padres que se involucren en la escuela volvié ndose voluntarios. Si usted esta interesado en este programa, por favor venga a la oficina principal para recibir mas información.
